Andrew S. Preston, Ph.D.

Dr. Preston is a licensed psychologist specializing in pediatric neuropsychology. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Davidson College and received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Florida. He completed his internship and post-doctoral fellowship at Brown University Medical School.

 

As a pediatric neuropsychologist, Dr. Preston specializes in understanding how brain functions impact learning, behavior, and other cognitive skills that are important for daily functioning, such as academic success. The goal of each evaluation is to understand your child’s learning style and how they process information. His evaluations take a comprehensive approach to cognitive functioning/information processing, including assessment of intellectual and academic skills as well as learning, memory, visual and language processing, attention, executive functioning, and other areas of cognition that impact daily functioning.

 

Dr. Preston strongly believes that each child has a unique set of characteristics that contribute to their personal development. Therefore, the goal of each evaluation is not only to identify areas of potential concern, but also to understand your child’s strengths. Following each evaluation, Dr. Preston works closely with children, parents, teachers, and health care providers to develop treatment plans that fit your child’s learning style (or cognitive profile), 

 

Children who benefit from a neuropsychological evaluation include children with learning and academic difficulties, ADHD or other attentional weaknesses, head injury (concussion, TBI), intellectual weaknesses, or other difficulties with information processing.  Neuropsychological evaluations also benefit children with neurological conditions, including seizures, neurocognitive late effects of cancer/brain tumors, or  genetic conditions.

 

Dr. Preston has published research and made presentations at professional conferences.  He enjoys giving presentations to schools, other medical providers, and other groups. He is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the International Neuropsychological Society, and The American Psychological Association Neuropsychology Division (APA Division 40).
