Elizabeth Raines, Ph.D.

Dr. Raines is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides therapy and assessment services with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. She received her BS/BA in Psychology and Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston.

Dr. Raines trained at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX and completed both her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO, where she developed a wide range of skills working with diverse youth and families. Dr. Raines has specialty training working with children and teens who have mental health challenges in the context of chronic health conditions, including diabetes, chronic pain, weight management/eating disorders, GI conditions, cardiac conditions, and traumatic injuries. These experiences and training highlighted the importance of understanding mental health within a biopsychosocial framework, as well as in the systems and settings that youth navigate on a daily basis (e.g., family, school, work, community, healthcare).

Dr. Raines employs a culturally sensitive and trauma informed approach to treatment that focuses on the strengths of the individual and family system. She utilizes evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and interpersonal therapy (IPT). She also incorporates skills from dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT).

Dr. Raines’ passion for clinical work focuses on working with adolescents and young adults who are exploring and navigating identity, gender, sexual orientation, individuation, and peer relationships, as well as anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. She works collaboratively with youth, families, schools, and the community to best support her client’s overall wellbeing by emphasizing coping skills, communication skills, and healthy interpersonal relationships.
